- An all original Mk 1 Three Step Herbert Terry Anglepoise 1227 desk lamp, English circa 1930.
- One of the rarest and most sought after models in the Herbert Terry range and with original factory paint, this is a very early example having no earth screw on the rear of the fork.
- The lamp has maintained all of its original features including the steel arms, large knurled mid section tensioner, small bolt at the lamp shade wrist, heavy single cast three step base with wrinkle finish and the classic slimmer pinhole lamp shade.
- There is an old company name plate fixed to the base 'J. Clarke & CO (Succrs.) Ltd 8 Donegall Square West Belfast' who were suppliers of surgical instruments throughout the late 19th and early 20th century making the lamp even more special and truly unique.
- Rewired in black braided flex and PAT tested, a truly wonderful example.
- Height (Highest) 85cm, Height (Lowest) 42cm, Width (Base) 15cm, Depth 48cm.

Herbert Terry & Sons George Carwardine (1887–1947) invented the Anglepoise lamp while developing new concepts for vehicle suspensions and quickly recognised that the joints and spring tension mechanism created had benefits for an industrial task lamp.  Carwardine entered into a licensing agreement with Herbert Terry and Sons who manufactured and marketed the lamp in the mid 1930s. The original four spring design was made for working environments, whereas the later three spring Anglepoise was designed for more domestic applications and which saw the release of the 1227 model.

All items on the John Zoffa website are vintage antique pieces and by their very nature, imperfect. When you purchase a piece from us, you are buying something with character and more often than not years of use.  Before making your purchase please have an understanding that the pieces you are buying have had a life and ownership before your acquaintance. Therefore there will be elements of wear & tear or even damage that we believe add a quality, aesthetic and sheer presence that just can’t be replicated or indeed replaced.  We always invite you to view the item or alternatively ask any questions you may have before making the purchase.

Refunds will only be granted when an item has a significant misdescription or an area of damage, not noted by us, which is more than just natural ageing.  Returns must be made within 7 days of receipt of goods and received by us in the same condition as it left our premises.  The cost of return is not refundable and we strongly advise you look into the necessary insurance in order to avoid the chance of damage whilst under the responsibility of your chosen courier.

In the event your item is damaged during shipping and after leaving our premises we ask that you notify us immediately with photographs of the packaging, and of the item itself. The shipping company is ultimately responsible to reimburse you for any damage that occurs during delivery and we will work alongside you in order to resolve this should it occur.
